Experimenting on and killing live human embryos is not the cure Michigan needs. Vote No on 2.
Prop. 2 Invites Taxpayer Funding
When other states embraced embryo and stem cell research, it came with a hefty price tag. Proposal 2 advocates won't tell you that taxpayers are the real "investors" in this experimentation. In New York, stem cell research is costing taxpayers $600 million. California taxpayers are stuck with a $3 billion bill. Taxpayer dollars to kill human embryos – Is that the cure Michigan needs? Vote No on Proposal 2
Prop. 2 Allows Buying, Selling & Killing Human Embryos
This measure would allow the buying, selling and killing of human embryos for experimentation. Proposal 2 opens the door to black market trafficking of human embryos for experimentation. With a limited supply of embryos and eggs, and so much money at stake, pressure for a black market will be enormous. Buying, Selling, Trafficking Human Embryos – Is that the cure Michigan needs? Vote No on Proposal 2
Prop. 2 Sets Stage for Human Cloning
According to the measure’s director, Proposal 2 is designed to make the public "more comfortable" with human cloning. If adopted, repealing Michigan's cloning ban would be revisited. Human Cloning – Is that the cure Michigan needs? Vote No on Proposal 2
Prop. 2 Authorizes Weird/Radical Science in Michigan
Passing Proposal 2 would allow scientists in corporate labs to mix cow and human genes together for experimentation, just as is currently being done in England. Radical Science – Is that the cure Michigan needs? Vote No on Proposal 2
Prop. 2 Gives Washington Politicians Control
Proposal 2 takes power from Michigan voters and gives control to politicians in Washington, D.C. Proposal 2 puts Congress and the President in charge of stem cell research for Michigan. Proposal 2 supersedes any Michigan research law and blocks any future attempt to regulate experimentation on live human embryos. Washington politicians in control – Is that the cure Michigan needs? Vote No on Proposal 2
Prop. 2 is About Unrestricted Research on Live Human Embryos
Proposal 2 would create loopholes that would ban any state law that might “prevent, discourage, or restrict research, or create disincentives to participate in the research.” In other words, if a state or local law regulates the safety or ethics of research, scientists can ignore the law. Unrestricted research – Is that the cure Michigan needs? Vote No on Proposal 2

“This proposal is deceptive and is hazardous because it will allow unregulated and unrestricted experimentation on live human embryos. I’ve joined the Vote No on 2 campaign to encourage citizens to take a moment and read this language carefully. This proposal would amend our state Constitution and contains many loopholes. Not only does it open the door to cloning but it would take away the authority of the Michigan legislature to regulate the practices of anyone associated with embryo research, public or private.”

Oakland County resident and longtime nonprofit healthcare advocate who was actively involved in promoting the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act
“As a cancer patient and former head of a nonprofit healthcare organization, I’m concerned about the false promises made by promoters of Proposal 2. Proposal 2 is deliberately deceptive in its language and I would strongly urge a no vote.”
